WE FOLLOW THE STATUTORY FRAMEWORK FOR THE EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE (SEPTEMBER 2014)
We also follow Development Matters to assess and plan appropriately for your child.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is made up of Four Themes. The Principles guide the work of all practitioners and are grouped as follows:
1. A UNIQUE CHILD
Recognises that every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. The commitments are focused around development; inclusion; safety; health and well-being.
2. POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS
Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person. The commitments are focused around respect; partnership with parents; supporting learning; and the role of the key person.
3. ENABLING ENVIRONMENTS
The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning. The commitments are focused around observations, assessment and planning; support for every child; the learning environment; and the wider context – transitions. We aim to provide your child with an appropriate child-centred, well-resourced environment.
4. LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
Recognises that children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, and that all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected.
This approach ensures that the EYFS meets the overarching aim of improving outcomes and reflects that it is every child’s right to grow up safe; healthy; enjoy and achieve; make a position contribution; and have the tools to fulfil his or her aspirations.
For your child to achieve well it is paramount that parents/carers are involved at all stages of their child’s development at the Nursery.
We consider it very important that the relationship between the parents/carers and the Nursery is a two-way dialogue focused on promoting the children’s well-being and self-esteem. You can really help us to establish this relationship and your child’s development by contributing regularly and getting involved as much as possible with our topics and activities.
